Lignin Compounds to Monoaromatics: Selective Cleavage of C−O Bonds over a Brominated Ruthenium Catalyst

نویسندگان

چکیده

The cleavage of C−O linkages in aryl ethers biomass-derived lignin compounds without hydrogenation the aromatic rings is a major challenge for production sustainable mono-aromatics. Conventional strategies over heterogeneous metal catalysts require addition homogeneous base additives causing environmental problems. Herein, we propose Ru/C catalyst modified by Br atoms selective direct bonds diphenyl ether reaching yield benzene and phenol as high 90.3 % increased selectivity to mono-aromatics (97.3 vs. 46.2 initial Ru) during depolymerization lignin. Characterization indicates poisoning terrace sites Ru nanoparticles, which are active rings, while defect on edges corners remain available provide higher intrinsic activity bond cleavage.

Site-selective chemical cleavage of peptide bonds.

Site-selective cleavage of extremely unreactive peptide bonds is a very important chemical modification that provides invaluable information regarding protein sequence, and it acts as a modulator of protein structure and function for therapeutic applications. For controlled and selective cleavage, a daunting task, chemical reagents must selectively recognize or bind to one or more amino acid re...

Selective production of arenes via direct lignin upgrading over a niobium-based catalyst

Lignin is the only large-volume renewable source of aromatic chemicals. Efficient depolymerization and deoxygenation of lignin while retaining the aromatic functionality are attractive but extremely challenging. Here we report the selective production of arenes via direct hydrodeoxygenation of organosolv lignin over a porous Ru/Nb2O5 catalyst that enabled the complete removal of the oxygen cont...

Parahydrogen enhanced NMR reveals correlations in selective hydrogenation of triple bonds over supported Pt catalyst.

Parahydrogen induced polarization using heterogeneous catalysis can produce impurity-free hyperpolarized gases and liquids, but the comparatively low signal enhancements and limited scope of substrates that can be polarized pose significant challenges to this approach. This study explores the surface processes affecting the disposition of the bilinear spin order derived from parahydrogen in the...

Chemo- and Regioselective Hydrogenolysis of Diaryl Ether C-O Bonds by a Robust Heterogeneous Ni/C Catalyst: Applications to the Cleavage of Complex Lignin-Related Fragments.

We report the chemo- and regioselective hydrogenolysis of the C-O bonds in di-ortho-substituted diaryl ethers under the catalysis of a supported nickel catalyst. The catalyst comprises heterogeneous nickel particles supported on activated carbon and furnishes arenes and phenols in high yields without hydrogenation. The high thermal stability of the embedded metal particles allows C-O bond cleav...

Structural Basis of Stereospecificity in the Bacterial Enzymatic Cleavage of β-Aryl Ether Bonds in Lignin*

Lignin is a combinatorial polymer comprising monoaromatic units that are linked via covalent bonds. Although lignin is a potential source of valuable aromatic chemicals, its recalcitrance to chemical or biological digestion presents major obstacles to both the production of second-generation biofuels and the generation of valuable coproducts from lignin's monoaromatic units. Degradation of lign...
